Ze vliegen uit maar komen niet meer terug, we kunnen ze met handenvol van de grond rapen. De oorzaak ligt volgens de actievoerders bij de insecticiden Gaucho, van Bayer, en Regent, van BASF
Een 50-tal actievoerders hebben vannamiddag een groep bijen, of beter gezegd mensen verkleed als bijen, symbolisch laten sterven voor de zetel van het chemisch bedrijf Bayer op de Brusselse Louisalaan.
Volgens de actievoerders, imkers, agronomen en leden van het collectief Bzzut, is het bedrijf met zijn insecticiden mede verantwoordelijk voor de massale bijensterfte van de laatste jaren.

Zembla over de controverses rond de bedreigde honingbij en het door Bayer geproduceerde landbouwgif en de door Bayer gesponsorde en dus ontkennende onderzoeken in Wageningen (en andere Universiteiten):
"Tot nu toe is er geen enkel wetenschappelijk bewijs gevonden dat het landbouwgif imidacloprid de belangrijkste oorzaak is van de massale bijensterfte in heel Europa. "

Teken de Petitie gericht aan de 2e Kamercommissie LNV: met als doel een aantal gerichte maatregelen nemen om bijensterfte te verminderen.

Wij verzoeken De vaste commissie voor Landbouw, Natuur en Voedselkwaliteit bij te dragen aan de realisatie van:
1. Een moratorium op het gebruik van de insecticiden imidacloprid, clothianidine en thiamethoxam die bekend staan om hun sub-lethale schadelijke effecten op bijenkolonies.
2. Een uitbreiding van de vereiste tests bij de toelating van gewasbeschermingsmiddelen zodanig dat deze de sub-lethale effecten op bijenkolonies niet langer over het hoofd zien.

De Partij voor de Dieren wil per direct een verbod op bestrijdingsmiddelen die gevaarlijk zijn voor bijen. Afgelopen zaterdag besteedde Zembla aandacht aan de wereldwijde bijensterfte, die vooral in Nederland massale vormen aanneemt. Uit deze uitzending bleek opnieuw dat onafhankelijk wetenschappers nieuwe, supersterke pesticiden aanwijzen als belangrijke factor, en pleiten voor een verbod op het gebruik van dit landbouwgif. Esther Ouwehand zal staatssecretaris Bleker van landbouw nogmaals confronteren met de ruim aanwezige kennis over de oorzaken en de gevolgen van bijensterfte.
De Partij voor de Dieren, GroenLinks en andere partijen dringen al geruime tijd aan op het van de markt halen van de extreem giftige bestrijdingsmiddelen die met het verlies van de bij in verband worden gebracht. In Frankrijk, Italie en Slovenië is inmiddels een verbod op deze gevaarlijke gifstoffen (de zogenaamde neonicotinoïden zoals imidacloprid) ingevoerd. In Nederland blijft het door het kabinet aangemerkte kenniscentrum over bijen aan de Wageningen Universiteit hardnekkig ieder verband ontkennen tussen het gifgebruik en de sterfte van bijenvolken. Waar onderzoekers van de Universiteit Utrecht allang hebben geconstateerd dat deze superinsecticiden negatieve effecten hebben op bijenpopulaties, houdt het kabinet vast aan de lijn van de WUR, die steeds beweert dat er meer onderzoek nodig is. On this basis, bee experts and registration authorities throughout the world have concluded that the bee problems observed by French beekeepers are due to a variety of interrelated causes, e.g. bee diseases, parasite infestation (particularly by the Varroa mite) and extreme environmental influences, and that a part was also played by agricultural and apicultural practices.
The Gaucho theme set off a wave of lawsuits in 2004. One consequence of this was the decision of the French Minister of Agriculture to suspend the registration for Gaucho in maize in France using the precautionary principle as the main reason. The suspension is valid until the EU Commission will have completed the re-assessment of the active ingredient imidacloprid. The suspension of registration applies only in France.
On Nov. 7, 2007 the French Minister of Agriculture Michel Barnier admitted in a statement given before the National Assembly, the French Parliament, that “field trials conducted by scientists and bee keepers identified a multitude of interrelated reasons for the bee mortality among them parasites, malnutrition and climate change”. He added that bee deaths could also be observed in regions where imidacloprid had not been applicated.
A new scientific study performed by the French food safety authority AFSSA published at first in the French daily Le Figaro in January 2007 made it very clear that a multitude of factors is responsible for the continuing bee mortality in parts of France. The authority confirmed these findings in an official press release published on Feb. 15, 2008. AFSSA clearly stated that there is no correlation between imidacloprid residues in pollen and bee mortality in France.”

Bees are vital to life on earth -- every year pollinating plants and crops with
an estimated $40bn value, over one third of the food supply in many countries.
Without immediate action to save bees many of our favourite fruits, vegetables,
and nuts could vanish from our shelves.
Recent years have seen a steep and disturbing global decline in bee populations
-- some bee species are already extinct and last week we learned that some US
species are at just 4% of their previous numbers. Scientists have been
scrambling for answers. Some studies claim the decline may be due to a
combination of factors including disease, habitat loss and toxic chemicals. But
increasingly, independent research has produced strong evidence blaming
neonicotinoid pesticides. France, Italy, Slovenia and even Germany, where the
main manufacturer Bayer is based, have banned one of these bee killers. But,
Bayer continues to export its poison across the world
This issue is now coming to the boil as major new studies have confirmed the
scale of this problem. If we can get European and US decision-makers to take
action, others will follow. It won’t be easy. A leaked document shows that the
US Environmental Protection Agency knew about the pesticide’s dangers, but
ignored them. The document says Bayer’s "highly toxic" product is a "major
risk concern to non target insects [honey bees]".
We need to make our voices heard to counter Bayer’s very strong influence on
policy makers and scientists in both the US and the EU where they fund the
studies and sit on policy bodies. The real experts -- the beekeepers and farmers
-- want these deadly pesticides prohibited until and unless we have solid,
